称谓的口译技巧

1、一般来说，给类机构或组织的首长其汉语称谓译成英语时虽可套用通用词head，但从比较严格的意义上，应使用特定的规范的称谓语。例如：

大学校长：president

中小学校长：principal；headmaster

局长：director

省长：governor

2、首席长官的汉语称谓常以“总......"表示，而表示首席长官的英语称谓语则常带有chief，general，head，managing 这类词。因此翻译冠以“总”字的头衔时，需遵循英语头衔的表达习惯：

总书记：general secretary

总工程师：chief engineer

总编辑：editor-in-chief；managing editor

总教练：head coach

3、汉语中的副职头衔一般冠以“副”字，英译时需根据固定搭配或表达习惯选择vice，associate，assistant，deputy等。

vice的使用面较广。如：副主席 vice president；副总理 vice premier

associate常用于行政职务的副职头衔或者学术头衔的副职。如：副教授 associate professor；副主编 associate managing editor

assistant常用于一些英语职位头衔如manager。如：副总经理 assistant general manager

deputy常用于以director，secretary，mayor，dean表示的职位的副职。如：deputy director

4、学术头衔除了含“正”“副”的高中级职称，还有初级职称，如助理，常用assistant表示。如：助理教授 assistant professor

5、有一些行业职称头衔，其高级职称不用“正”或“副”表示，直接用“高级”来表示，可以用senior来表示。如：高级工程师 senior engineer

6、有一些行业的职称，其最高级别的职位冠以“首席”，英语常用chief表示。如：首席代表 chief representative

除了用“总”“高级”“首席 ”来表示最高级职务，还有一些高级职务则使用“长”。如： 护士长 head nurse；秘书长 secretary-general

7、有些头衔会含有“代理”“常务”“执行”“名誉”这类称谓语。一般来说，代理译作acting，常务译作managing，执行译作executive，名誉译作honorary。如代理市长 acting mayor；名誉校长 honorary president

8、有些职称带有“主任”“主治”“特级”“特派”“特约”等，英译不尽相同。如：

主任编辑：associate senior editor

主任医师： senior doctor

主治医师：attending/chief doctor； physician；consultant

特级教师：special-grade senior teacher

特派记者：accredited correspondent

特约编辑：contributing editor

特约记者：special correspondent
